FC Dallas announced today that they've officially re-signed French midfielder Peter Luccin.
The 34-year-old was one of the inspirational stories of 2013 as Luccin, after suffering a serious knee injury early in preseason, rehabbed throughout the sweltering Texas summer to earn a re-activation to the FC Dallas roster in mid-September before appearing in three of the final four games including two starts to end the season.
Despite being unable to contribute on the field through most of the season, Luccin became a huge part of the FCD locker room in 2013 acting as a pseudo-coach while working towards a return to the field.
"After my injury, I talked to Schellas. He asked me if I would mind helping the younger players, using my experience playing in Europe,” Luccin told FCDallas.com in August. "I liked that because I still wanted to help and contribute and be part of the team in any way I could. We also have a lot of great, young players who need to learn. We have a very good locker room. All the players want to learn.”
A defensive midfielder with experience at the highest levels of European soccer including La Liga and Ligue 1, Luccin trained with Marseille in France during this offseason and returns to FCD looking to make a major contribution in the FCD central midfield with players like Andrew Jacobson, Bobby Warshaw, Mauro Diaz and newly-acquired Adam Moffat.
FC Dallas begins official pre-season training on Saturday, January 25 before flying to Abu Dhabi for a two-week training camp in the UAE.
